about

ABOUT "LONERS"
1977, Siracusa, Sicily: So much time spent listening to the music on the radio and from the records - you know the real ones; the vinyl inside the shiny wrapping cover - that somehow, against the odds, they were able to get; it was a labour of love, it was the beginning of a dream.
With an old clarissa guitar and very little experience, Salvo Rizzuto and Sante Barbagallo started to explore the vast and mystical world of song writing. After several attempts they came up with some chords and a melody that was much sweeter to their ears than anything else they had tried up to that point, it was “I Remember A Dream”.
The following year Salvo left Italy to go to London, where after the first few difficult years, he began his long held ambition, a singing career. He worked with many musicians including Trevor Horn, d-Influence, Stephen Duffy and since 1998 has published 5 albums (Freedom or Not / Sunshaker) and numerous singles. Sante stayed in Siracusa, where he remained involved in the local music scene, opened a record shop (Floppy Disk) and organized concerts and Blues festivals.
30 years later and a little more mature both musically and personally, Salvo and Sante have reconnected to complete the path started all those years ago.
Carlo Barbagallo, a member of Suzanne’Silver and Albanopower, as well as a d-i-y solo artist, is in charge of the production. He has been able to input a great deal of his creativity, transforming each song from its acoustic origin into a fully finished product and so becoming the third author.
Finally after two long years the album is ready. “I Remember A Dream” is the title track and although written 33 years ago, it fully represents the link between past and present and more romantically the fulfillment of a dream.
The project is called Loners, the name inspired by the Neil Young song “The Loner”.

ABOUT "I REMEMBER A DREAM"
The album opens with a slide guitar in the best blues tradition. The vocals confirm the bluesy intent, and drums and backing create a hint of soul. No gimmicks, no tricks, these are songs straight from the heart. The whole album relies on the abilities and musical instinct of real musicians. Loners will take you through a journey of soul, pop; an encounter between people and musicians. The drums are always tight the structures clean, the backing track simple and to the point, avoiding unnecessary flamboyance. It all sychronizes to achieve a balance between the melodies and narrative. A sense of magic emphasized by the use of reverbs and esoteric sounds. The significance is more evident at the very end, where it evolves into a realization that a dream has just come true. (Mauro Felice)

Track Name: Let It Shine
I guess you know the truth
I’m not an easy man
You see this long bad spell
Has been haunting me
All my life all of my life

It’s got a hold of me
It just won’t let me be
It’s always waking me
Never lets me free

And along the way
Comes another lonely day

And yes I do feel this endless guilt
A life and its dreams I could not built
I’ve got nothing more
Than this old sad song

There is no place
There’s nowhere left to hide
So tonight gotta let it shine

My life is filled with things
with things I cannot touch
With things I cannot change
With things I can’t let go

In my room
Waiting for the moon

I don’t wanna feel this endless guilt
I wanna look back on what I built
I’ve got nothing more
Than this old sad sad song

But tonight I will let it shine
Track Name: I'll Do It Again
You can keep me under
Your spotlight
You can analyse me
One more time
You can talk about me
All you like
You can watch in silence
That’s all right

Maybe you
Don’t understand
It's all true
This is what I am
It's for real
I’d do it again

Let me tell
You’re wasting
Your own time
You could never know
My own mind
Maybe you care
Maybe you don’t
Maybe you can’t believe
You’re too late

Or maybe you
Don’t understand
It's all true
I’m what I am
It's for real
I’d do it again

When you go around
In circles you’re bound
To miss the road
But it doesn’t mean you get lost
Keep your advice
I know the sun will still rise
And when you have gone
I’ll do it again

In my back room
In my back yard
Track Name: I'm Just A Man
Well I get to hear it maybe
Once a day
Someone’s telling me
Be like a man
What is there to prove
It’ll never turn out right
But I kind of know one thing
I need you by my side

And I’m trying
Harder than I ever did before
So maybe you and me could smile once more
Nothing’s wrong
I’m a man
Just a man

Nights when I can’t sleep
Nights when I can’t stop
All this pain inside
Deep in me
When I’m in the dark
And my eyes ere closed
And when I’m all alone
I feel more exposed

Searching for a sign
To guide me through my strife
Will I ever find
Time for a wife
Tell me how we grow
Can we dream all day
Ignoring what we know
We won’t find our way

And I’m trying
Harder than I ever did before
So maybe you and me could smile once more
Nothing strange
I’m a man
Just a man
Track Name: When Someone Doubts You
Sometimes
When someone doubts you
Try to understand
They say only the good things
Will always remain

Keep on singing
All the way
There’s nothing
To explain

Sometimes
When someone doubts you
Try to understand
They say that only the real love
Will always remain

That incoming tide
Never came
I won’t fear the sea
Tonight
What’s your question
This time
Look who’s laughing now

For me that is just fine
I’ve still got some time
I know I’ll be home
I’ll be playing loud my brand new song
I’ll put on the light
It’ll turn out just right
I’m a lucky man
My guitar has saved me once again

What some people say
Doesn’t bother me
Still I can’t forget
The way you sold the soul of a dead man
That you never knew
That you broke in two
Never understood
Is something that I won’t forgive you for

Sometimes
When someone doubts you
Try to understand
They say only the good things
Will always remain
Track Name: So Wrong
You wanted a man
A timeless remind of
Someone you left behind

I’m not that man
No hidden names
Painted over me

Some people cry their way through midnight
To just before the break of dawn
But baby you couldn’t have been so wrong
Tell your friends I’m movin' on

Now the photographs
A letter
A song of someone you left behind

I knew that one day soon
I would not know how
To love you anymore

You thought I’d cry my way through midnight
To just before the break of dawn

But baby you couldn’t have been so wrong
Baby you couldn’t have been so wrong
Tell your friends that we were wrong
You can tell your friends that I’m movin' on
Never had a clue of what you were looking for

White line and nothing more
You can tell your friends that I’m movin' on
Tell your friends that we were wrong
Tell your friends that I’m movin' on
Tell your friends that we were wrong
Track Name: Good Times And Bad Times
Look around
You might as well
And listen to your mind sometimes
You’ve got your hands tied down
Like the last time

The loneliness you feel inside
Ought to make you realize
That maybe well just maybe
Love can save you

You should have known that all the good times
Hide in disguise all the bad times

I don’t want to leave you now
It’s not the time to be alone
And find ourselves together
For the last time

Well by now you ought to know
There’s no way that I’d let it go
Leaving you crying
In a dead end

You should have known that all the good times
Hide in disguise all the bad times

If is this the same room
What a way to go

A place where we will find out
There’s no other choice
I know someone’s waiting
Round the corner now
But He won’t be there for long
He will move on
Track Name: Man In The Mirror
Man in the mirror
You know who I am
Please help me find
The man that’s in me

That’s lost inside of me
That I still can’t seem to reach

That is lost inside
Somewhere deep inside of me

Even after all these years
Peace right now is so hard to find

And you know the sound of pain
It’s still all so loud and clear

Timid hearts somewhere beating in the dark
Along the way

Wish I was brave
Like the man in the mirror
Tell me I’m not going crazy
Dear man in the mirror

Will I ever go
Will I ever go back home
Will I ever find
Ever find the way back home

I can’t even get high tonight
Forget hoping for better times
Daylight shines upon the land
Massive rocks and desert sand
Between this wild road and my dreams
There’s someone standing in my way
Screaming from the night before
Rumbles on and on and on
Track Name: Brand New Day
A fading light from my broken headlamp
In the freezing rain while the engines dying
I got holes in my shoes
I got soaking socks
An awful feeling
But I will go on

Got no fear now
I feel no more pain
Because you my love are just minutes away

It will be a smiling day
It will be a brand new day

It will be a brand new day
It will be a new life again
Track Name: Can't Stay Without You
With the stars above
Awake again tonight
I try to close my eyes
Just to see your smile

I can’t change it
I just cannot lie
What you mean to me
Or how I feel inside

I can’t stay here without you
I can’t dream when you’re away
I can’t stay without you
I’m falling fast down to the ground

I don’t exercise
I’m a little overweight
I often sit around
And smoke throughout the day

Now the question
is simply how long
It will take you
To figure it all out

I can’t stay here without you
I can’t dream when you’re away
I can’t stay without you
I’m falling way below the ground

You might be laughing out loud
I’m sure you’ve heard it all before
It's all so amusing
It's all I can say
Track Name: I Remember A Dream
I remember a dream
As if it was reality now
There was wonderful music
Through the night until dawn

It means so much to me
That that dream never left you
And maybe without knowing
It’s still living and growing

So just when you feel
That nothing can change your world
Nothing can change at all
Just remember your dream

It will turn out alright
Alright
